Passage: जनसुनवाई और शिकायत निस्तारण0 / 226 words

How UPSSSC works out your speed

UPSSSC counts five key depressions as one word. Your words are then reduced only if you make more than the allowed number of errors. This is the method reported from earlier UPSSSC typing test notices, and it is what this test uses:

  • Words typed = key depressions ÷ 5.
  • Errors = full mistakes + half mistakes × 0.5.
  • Up to 5 errors are allowed. Each error beyond 5 removes 5 words.
  • Net speed = (words typed − words removed) ÷ 5 minutes.

A worked example

Say you type 850 key depressions in the 5-minute English test, which is 170 words. You make 6 full mistakes and 3 half mistakes: 7.5 errors. That is 2.5 over the limit, so 12.5 words are removed, leaving 157.5. Divided by 5 minutes, your net speed is 31.5 wpm, which clears 30.

The same typing with 10 errors would lose 25 words and drop to 29 wpm, a fail. Around the limit, every error matters more than a little extra speed.

Full and half mistakes

  • Full mistake: an omitted, wrong, added or repeated word, a spelling error, or an incomplete word.
  • Half mistake: a spacing error, wrong capital letter (English only), a punctuation error, or transposed words.

Backspace and Hindi fonts

Backspace is reported to work only on the word you are typing and the one before it. You can fix a slip you notice at once, but not one further back. This test copies that rule.

For Hindi you can use Kruti Dev 010 (Remington layout) or Mangal (Inscript layout). This free test uses Mangal with Inscript. For Kruti Dev, use the UPSSSC Junior Assistant course on the Typing Orbit software.
