RO or ARO: who takes the typing test
The RO/ARO exam recruits both Review Officers and Assistant Review Officers through the same written exams. Only ARO posts carry the Hindi typing requirement. If ARO is in your post preference, start typing practice now rather than after the Mains result, because a 25 wpm Hindi speed takes weeks to build from scratch.
Kruti Dev 010 or Mangal?
UPPSC lets you choose either Kruti Dev 010, which uses the Remington typewriter layout, or Mangal, which uses Inscript. The two layouts put Hindi letters on completely different keys, so pick one and practise only that.
If you learned Hindi typing at an institute, you probably know Remington: stay with Kruti Dev. If you are starting fresh, Inscript is logical and easier to learn. This free test uses Mangal with Inscript; for Kruti Dev practice, use the Typing Orbit software.
What 25 wpm in Hindi means
Typing tests count a word as five key depressions, not as a dictionary word. Hindi words with matras and half letters need more keystrokes, so 25 wpm is about 125 key depressions a minute, or about 625 in five minutes. That is a steady rhythm, but only once your fingers know where every matra is.

|---|---|---|
| Below 18 wpm | High | Learn the full layout first, including matras and half letters. |
| 18 to 24 wpm | High | Daily 5-minute tests on new passages. Accuracy first. |
| 25 to 28 wpm | Moderate | You pass with little margin. Build to 30. |
| 29 to 33 wpm | Low | Keep it with daily practice on unseen passages. |
| Above 33 wpm | Very low | Protect accuracy and focus on your written exams. |
