The UPSSSC Junior Assistant typing test 2026 under Advt 12-Exam/2024 is the skill stage that follows the Main Examination (PAP-2023). Speed, font and mistake rules come only from the commission's typing notice and your admit card at upsssc.gov.in. News reports mention a 13 November start; confirm it on the official notice before planning.
Last checked: 4 November 2026 against the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC) notice board at upsssc.gov.in.

UPSSSC Junior Assistant typing test 2026: what is the current status?
The typing test (टंकण परीक्षा) is the skill stage for shortlisted Junior Assistant candidates under Advt No. 12-Exam/2024. The UPSSSC notice board lists this advertisement's Junior Assistant Main Examination (PAP-2023) in a notice dated 16/10/2025.
UPSSSC is the Uttar Pradesh state body for recruitment to Group C posts. It is headquartered in Lucknow, was set up in 1988 and became a Commission in 1990.
This guide follows the commission's notices only. Where a fact is missing, we say so. Reports in the news may be right, but a report is not an exam rule. The typing notice and your admit card decide your date, shift, venue and rules.
Date and schedule: what changed from 30 October?
News reports describe a postponement from 30 October 2026 and a new start of 13 November 2026, with a window of 13 to 26 November. We could not confirm these dates here, so treat them as reported, not official.
| Date | Event | Status |
|---|
| 16 Oct 2025 | Notice board lists Advt No. 12-Exam/2024, Junior Assistant Main Examination (PAP-2023) | Seen on upsssc.gov.in |
| 25 Sept 2026 | Postponement notice, as reported | Not confirmed here |
| 30 Oct 2026 | Earlier typing test date, as reported | Not confirmed here |
| 3 Nov 2026 | Admit card release, as reported | Not confirmed here |
| 13 Nov 2026 | New start date, as reported | Not confirmed here |
| 13–26 Nov 2026 | Test window, as reported | Not confirmed here |
Do not assume your own date from this table. The window covers many days and shifts, and your admit card shows your slot.
Why was the test postponed from 30 October? We have not found a reason in an official notice we can cite. Any explanation you read elsewhere is a guess unless it quotes the commission's notice.
Where is the test held? The commission is based in Lucknow, but do not assume your centre. The venue on your admit card is the only one that counts.
Keep checking the notice board on upsssc.gov.in until your test day. Dates in such tests can change between notices. Our upcoming government typing test tracker lists changes across exams.
How fast do you need to type in Hindi and English?
The required speed, passage length and test duration are set by the UPSSSC typing notice. We could not confirm them from an official source here, so we are not stating a number. Open the notice PDF and note the Hindi speed, the English speed (if any) and the time allowed.
Many sites quote one figure for "UPSSSC typing speed". Some copy it from another Uttar Pradesh exam. For example, the UPPSC ARO test has its own rules, and the two should not be mixed up. If a page does not link the UPSSSC notice, do not trust its number.
Two things to check in the notice:
- The unit. Is speed given in words per minute, key depressions per hour (KDPH), or another measure?
- The language. Does the notice ask for Hindi only, or Hindi and English?
For context on how speeds differ across exams, see the minimum typing speed for government jobs chart. Use it for comparison only, not for your UPSSSC target.
Once you know your target, try the free UPSSSC Junior Assistant typing practice test and compare your net speed to the notice.
Is the typing test qualifying, and what if you fail?
Whether the test is only qualifying or adds marks to your merit is stated in the typing notice, and we could not confirm it here. Do not rely on forums for this. It changes how you prepare: a qualifying test needs a safe pass, while a marks-based test rewards extra speed and accuracy.
If you do not meet the standard, the effect on your final selection depends on the notice. We have not seen an official statement on a re-test, so do not assume you get a second chance. Prepare as if you have one attempt.
We do not quote cut-offs or pass rates. Neither is available from an official source for this stage, and invented numbers would only mislead you.
How are mistakes counted?
The UPSSSC rule for mistakes must come from its typing notice, which we could not confirm here. What follows is the general method used in many Indian government typing tests. It is an example, not the UPSSSC rule.
In general-purpose evaluation:
- A full mistake is usually a wrong, missing or extra word.
- A half mistake is usually a smaller slip, such as a spacing or punctuation error. Some exams count it, some do not.
- Net speed is typed words minus mistakes, divided by the minutes allowed.
Worked example (illustrative only). A candidate types 300 words in 10 minutes and makes 9 full mistakes. Net words are 300 − 9 = 291. Net speed is 291 ÷ 10 = 29.1 words per minute. If the notice requires a higher speed than 29.1 wpm, this attempt would fall short, however fast the raw typing felt.
The lesson is that accuracy decides your net speed. Typing a little slower with fewer errors usually beats rushing. Read how typing test mistakes are calculated for full and half mistake examples and the KDPH method.
Backspace. We have not confirmed whether backspace is allowed in this test. Some exams allow it and some restrict it, so read the instructions on your admit card and on the exam screen. Until then, build the habit of typing accurately the first time. See is backspace allowed in government typing tests for how other exams treat it.
Which Hindi font and keyboard layout: Kruti Dev or Mangal?
The typing notice or admit card should state the Hindi font and keyboard layout. We could not confirm either from an official source here, so we are not naming one. Do not assume the layout from another exam.
The two names you will see are Kruti Dev and Mangal Unicode. They are different fonts, and the keys you press can differ with the layout. The common layouts are Remington Gail and Inscript.
- Kruti Dev is typically typed with the Remington layout.
- Mangal Unicode is often typed with Inscript, but not always.
If the notice is silent, check the instructions on the exam portal and on your admit card. Then practise on the layout you use daily and on the other one for a few sessions. A switch you have never practised can cost you speed on test day.
Our Kruti Dev vs Mangal Unicode font guide explains how the two work and how exams treat them.
Admit card and reporting-day checklist
Download your admit card from upsssc.gov.in using the login details you gave in your application. Open the official site directly, not a link from social media. Exact menu names can change, so look for the typing test or Junior Assistant notice on the home page.
- Open upsssc.gov.in and find the typing test admit card link for Advt No. 12-Exam/2024.
- Log in with your registration details.
- Download the admit card and save a copy on your phone.
- Print it clearly. A blurry print can cause trouble at the gate.
Check these on the admit card before you leave home:
- Name, photo and signature
- Date, shift and reporting time
- Centre name and address
- Instructions on font, layout or documents
Documents. Carry what the admit card and notice list, and no more. Photo ID is normally required, but confirm which IDs are accepted in the notice. Do not rely on a coaching site's list.
If the admit card is missing or has an error. Use the helpline or contact details printed in the notice. Report errors in your name, photo or category early, not on test day. Do not wait to see if it gets fixed at the centre.
Reach the centre early. Check the route the day before, as city traffic can delay you.
Practice plan before the test
Build your plan around the speed and duration in the notice. The steps below work whatever the number is, and your test may be only days away.
- Day 1: read the notice. Note the Hindi speed, the English speed if any, the duration, the font and the layout.
- Set a target. Aim a little above the notice's required net speed so one bad passage will not fail you.
- Daily drills. Spend 15 to 20 minutes on Hindi and 10 to 15 minutes on English, if English is required. Focus on clean typing, not raw speed.
- Review mistakes. After each drill, note which words you got wrong. Repeated errors are usually conjuncts, matras or spacing.
- One full mock a week. If your test is in 10 days, do one early and one two days before. Use the same duration as the notice.
- Match the layout. Practise on the layout the notice names. If it is silent, keep both ready.
- Last two days. Slow, accurate practice only. Sleep well and do not try a new layout.
Accuracy first, then speed. Raise speed only when you can keep errors low for several mocks in a row. For UPSSSC typing test kaise pass kare, the honest answer is steady daily practice on the right layout with the notice's rules in mind.
